Algae and Slime in a Hydro Tub

Green water and slimy roots are the usual first failures. They are maintenance, not a reason to buy a tower kit.

Opaque tub

Algae wants light on the nutrient water. A clear bin by a window is an algae farm. Use a dark tub so light hits leaves, not the reservoir.

Dark tub blocks light on the water; clear tub grows algae
Light on the leaves. Not on the water.

Slime is usually air

If the stone is not bubbling, roots sit in still water. Fix the pump and the tube before you add more nutrient. Then change part of the solution and wipe the tub.

pH

Most leafy crops want roughly 5.5 to 6.5. A cheap kit beats guessing. Do not pour bleach into a food tub.

Weekly checks: bubbles, water level, pH, wipe the tub
Bubbles, level, pH. Then wipe.

Water you would drink from a coil is a different treatment job:

Treat condensate before you drink

Keep a record of every reading and change

When something looks off, a record helps you spot what changed. The FlarePress Hydro Tub Logbook & Calculator logs EC, pH and water temperature against the ranges you set, records every top-up and reservoir refresh with due dates, and has an observation log for what you saw, what you tried and the result. Printable reservoir-side weekly cards included.
